Recent History
Motor House Arts has recently become a Community Interest Company. In 2023 our talented team embarked on a series of workshops and new making programmes, initially drawing from the model of Italian industrial designer Enzo Mari and his Autoprogettazione to create furniture using the simplest means, and which empowers individuals to be able to realise their own work and gain agency as makers in their own right.
This led to a whole new series of workshops in which groups of makers from all over the country converged on our site in North Yorkshire for collaborative making, thereby ushering in a new era for Motor House Arts CIC.
In 2025 we were invited to take our work to Osaka in Japan, and this has led to an ongoing exchange with groups of makers and organisations in the UK, Japan, and the US.
We became incorporated as a CIC in January 2026 and this new phase of our work builds on a 40 year history on workshops and collaborations with leading artists and educators, and within the unique historical framework of our site, drawing on the legacy of the Arts & Crafts movement and bringing it to life and relevance in the C21st, and through critical intersections between making and technology.
