About
Motor House Arts is a Community Interest Company bringing together making, design and the arts to support people and communities across the North of England. Building on four decades of creative practice, we run hands-on programmes that connect artists, makers and communities, developing skills, confidence and cultural life in places that need it most.
We care for and develop the unique site of Arts & Crafts buildings comprising The Motor House at East Rounton in North Yorkshire as a place where people can come together to make, learn, and share knowledge through workshops, exhibitions, and educational events in making, design and the arts.
Our Vision
Our vision is to be a creative centre in the North East of England and part of a national and international network connecting arts education and community, and building on our historic legacy within the Arts and Crafts movement.
Our Mission
Our mission is to help communities solve local problems through making and design, workshops and events, and by fostering a culture of collaboration and co-production to builds skills, confidence, and collective agency.
Our Values
Improved health and well-being. Creative spaces should be open and welcoming to everyone, so we work to remove key barriers so that people of all ages, backgrounds, and experience levels can take part, feel valued, and benefit from what we can do together.
Learning and discovery through making. We believe people learn best by making and through hands-on approaches to creative work, aligned with a solid base of critical thinking. To this end, we help people build practical skills, confidence, and a sense of what they can achieve, through innovative making programmes and the discovery of new materials and processes.
Community-building in the North East. We’re rooted in the North East of England and work with communities, artists, designers, educators, and local, national, and international cultural organisations to bring new creative life and opportunity to our region.
